Established in 1994, International Children’s Awareness (ICA) is a Canadian registered Non-Governmental Organization focusing their efforts on working with communities in participatory ways to ensure sustainable development solutions within the realm of education, health, water and sanitation and income generation.

At ICA Canada, we understand that education is foundational to great change. Education leads to sustainability. Education promotes equality. Education empowers humanity. In times of great uncertainty education provides stability. And most importantly education gives hope and inspiration for future generations.

Cameroon is challenged by crises. Civil unrest and poverty have led to thousands of Cameroonian children with POOR ACCESS to quality education.

Despite a 93.5% enrolment, attendance rates are 47.7% for girls and 56.7% for boys (2011).

Low attendance is due to COST (families must pay for uniforms and book fees), socio-cultural bias against girls, child labor and more recently school closers due to civil unrest.

There is INADEQUATE INFRASTRUCTURE: 1.8 Million seats for children although 2.9 Million attended.

Isolated areas are under served.
