The Jesuits are a Catholic religious order of priests and brothers, founded in 1540 by Saint Ignatius of Loyola. Rooted in faith and sustained by prayer, Jesuits dedicate their lives to serving wherever the Church and the world need them most.
In Canada and around the world, Jesuits are engaged in education, spiritual accompaniment, and social outreach. They serve in schools and universities, retreat centres and parishes, as well as in hospitals, prisons, remote communities, and on city streets. Guided by a commitment to justice and reconciliation, their work seeks to accompany people at the margins and respond to the signs of the times.
Today, nearly 14,000 Jesuits serve in 112 countries. In Canada, approximately 140 priests and brothers, based in more than 15 locations, continue this mission—walking with communities in faith, compassion and hope.
