The Lennoxville & District Women’s Centre (LDWC) was founded in 1981 and received a regional mandate to serve English-speaking women in the Estrie (05) region in 1996. As a not-for-profit community organization, the LDWC is dedicated to serving women and their families and to providing them with a network of support and resources.
English-speaking women are among the most vulnerable demographic of the Estrie (05) region and many suffer from isolation and financial stress. Based on the 2016 census and compared to their francophone counterparts, there are significantly higher levels of unemployment and almost two times as many English-speaking families earning less than the $20,000 cut-off line representing the poverty threshold. This information is substantiated in the “Responding to the Needs of the Linguistic and Cultural Communities in Estrie” which specifically details the poor living conditions within which many English seniors and young families find themselves.
