about

History

Founded in Newmarket Ontario in 2007 as Newmarket Community Music & Arts Inc. In 2012 the organization relocated activities to the Regent Park Centre for Social Innovation and registered “NewArts Inc.” as it’s style name and expanded its mandate.

Mission

To broaden the horizons of diverse children and youth through the creation of innovative arts, and educational programs presented in schools and community centres.

Who we serve

Programs and activities are aimed at diverse low income children between 6 and 13, our summer student program provides valuable skills on the job skills training for youth 16 to 30. The films, events, performances and presentations we produce are also attended by all ages of the general public.

Where we operate

While operations are centred in Toronto at the Regent Park Centre for Social Innovation, the programs reach out to the surrounding GTA and culminate in the annual Climate Arts Awards in 2019 it will be held at the CBC Glenn Gould Studio during the Toronto International Film Festival (not an official TIFF event).

What we do

Past projects include:

Natural Wonders of Canada a documentary style expose of all 46 National Parks presented with live original music and narration.

Birth of City the Story of Toronto a documentary style film which spans 150 years of Toronto's history highlighting the city's major accomplishments and contributions of indigenous cultures and immigrants. The production which included live music and narration toured local schools and community centres during Canada's 150 Anniversary.

Social Media 101 In the early stages of social media, participants learned on the job to design and implement campaigns for major festivals including the Toronto Beaches International Jazz Festival, Cabbagetown Cultural Festival, Fairbank Summerfest, Pickering and Barrie Community Festivals.   Summer student employees are involved in every aspect of the creative and administrative processes, from early production to the final presentations and in the process they develop new skills relevant to the new world of work.

2019 Programs

Climate Arts Awards

the inaugural Climate Arts Awards being held at CBC Glenn Gould Studio during the Toronto international film Festival on September 15, 2019. The gala, reception, live performance and awards ceremony will pay tribute to artists and arts organizations who are changing the narrative around climate change. 12 organizations selected by our panel will make presentations on stage using film, visual arts and live performances of music and dance with climate change themes. Expert judges will be in the audience and select the Climate Arts Awards recipients.

Canadian actor Luba Goy of CBC’s AirFarce has already agreed to host and a number of well known Canadians along with several children and youth have been invited to participate in a short film to promote the event.

The Gala event starts out with a celebrity walk along the Green Carpet, a special reception, performances and art displays by participants from Toronto’s arts community.
