SAFE is a registered charitable society with a mission to sponsor and resettle refugees in Northeastern Nova Scotia. We are approaching a significant milestone: ten years of welcoming refugee families and individuals to Antigonish and surrounding communities.Since 2015, SAFE has supported the sponsorship of 164 refugee-background individuals who have been welcomed and resettled in Antigonish, Pictou, and Inverness counties by SAFE and other rural sponsor groups. This was made possible through the generous financial support of community members and corporate sponsors like you, and the work of hundreds of volunteers of all ages.Together, we have helped refugees build new lives in Canada while also building more inclusive, vibrant communities where newcomers contribute to our local economies and cultures.To mark our 10-year anniversary, we are hosting a celebration event on Saturday, November 15, and we have set a goal of raising $60,000 to cover the costs of sponsoring two refugee families. We are using a match-funding approach, where community members are invited to make donations to match contributions already made by local businesses.
