Healthcare workers are modern day superheroes; there’s no question about it. While Canadians are being asked to stay home and practise social distancing, our courageous St. Joe’s staff come to work every day, prepared to do battle on the front lines and behind the scenes, to care for patients and to protect our community from the COVID-19 virus.

In addition to providing ongoing care for the patients we serve every day, we’re busy making space for hundreds of extra care beds in preparation for the forecasted spike in COVID-19 cases we are expecting to see. But space alone isn’t enough to care for patients affected by COVID-19. We’ll also need more equipment and supplies.

• Our Hospital needs more beds and mattresses for the forecasted surge in patients
• We also need additional optiflow machines and ventilation devices that will help people affected by this severe respiratory virus to breathe easier.
• When that isn’t enough to heal our more critically ill patients, we also need Glidescopes which help to intubate those who will need to be placed on a ventilator.
• And like other hospitals, we’re still in need of personal protective equipment and supplies like masks and gowns to protect both our patients and our staff.
