The Eastern Townships lost a shining star with the passing of Pervana Mladenof on June 11, 2019. She was a mother, sister, neighbor, friend, educator, and community leader who loved and cherished so many and, in turn, was loved and cherished by so many more.
Pervana had an immeasurable impact on the lives of nearly everyone she met. Pervana worked for many years as Coordinator of the Memphrémagog Community Learning Centre. She was fiercely passionate about her job and her community - organizing projects for the students of Princess Elizabeth Elementary School, promoting lifelong learning through the Magog Night School, welcoming newcomers to the region, and spearheading countless other initiatives for the greater good of the Eastern Townships community.
Pervana passed suddenly, and before she left, she shared a list of things she felt the community needed, and that she wished she could have accomplished during her lifetime. As a strong proponent of lifelong learning, community-building, art, music, gardening and of the power of being outdoors - she dreamed of projects that would enrich the lives of local children and adults and strengthen our community.
Primary among these was the installation of a Gazebo at the Princess Elizabeth Elementary School to serve as an exciting outdoor classroom, a place for the community to enjoy potluck dinners, music and dancing, artistic events, movie nights under the stars, and other activities. She hoped for logs for the children to sit on and comfortable benches in the garden area. Let’s come together to make these dreams a reality!
