Who are we?
The Wildlife Rescue Society of Saskatchewan (WRSOS) is a registered non-profit organization. We operate Saskatchewan's Wildlife Helpline, rescue and transport injured/orphaned wildlife, and educate the public through community outreach. WRSOS has established itself as an essential service for the province and its residents. We are committed to protecting wildlife and their habitat, improving conservation awareness, and mitigating human-wildlife conflict.
What do we do?
The Helpline: We operate a helpline, which is monitored every single day of the year from 9am - 5pm. Covering an entire province, our helpline is the only one of its kind across all of Canada! Through our helpline, our trained volunteers offer human-wildlife conflict resolution, general information and advice and, when necessary, facilitate the rescue and transportation of injured and orphaned wildlife to veterinarians and licensed wildlife rehabilitators across the province. The demand for our services is growing rapidly across the province; between 2021 and 2023 so far, the calls to our Helpline are up by 33%!
Our Rescue Team: Our team of over 150 dedicated volunteers take great pride in the work that they do! Thanks to these volunteers, we are able to coordinate the rescue and transport of injured and orphaned wildlife around the province. Our volunteers drove over 35,000km in 2022!
Community Outreach: Whether it be through our helpline, presentations, or attending and hosting events, WRSOS promotes conservation awareness by focusing on promoting the understanding of/respect for all wildlife.
Why do we do this?
Because we care about wildlife - a lot! WRSOS plays a vital role in the protection of wildlife in the province of Saskatchewan. Our goals include:
- To conserve and protect wildlife and their habitat.
- To prevent the unnecessary removal of wildlife from their natural habitat.
- To prevent accidental injury or illness to callers or wildlife.
- To provide information and education to the public about wildlife issues.
- To provide rescue and transportation for the wildlife that needs help.
- To ensure the return to the wild of medically assisted and rehabilitated wildlife.
