Welcome to A Home for Hooves!

As a registered charity, we are committed to providing a safe haven for rescued, abandoned, and surrendered farmed animals, as well as some domesticated companions. Our mission is to provide farmed animals with a forever home that emulates a natural and enriching environment.

Founded in September 2017, we are the only farmed animal sanctuary on Vancouver Island and are proud to be the first farmed animal sanctuary in Canada to be accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries. This recognizes our commitment to providing high-quality care and welfare for our residents. After outgrowing our original property, we acquired 40-acres of land, which is ten times larger and includes three barns. We continue to raise funds to complete essential infrastructure upgrades, such as fencing and shelters.

There are over 200 residents currently living at A Home for Hooves, including: pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese, donkeys, bovine, mini horses, partridges, dogs, cats, and guinea pigs. Your support enables us to provide them with nutritious food, a safe and comfortable place to sleep and rest, and timely medical care. We want to empower a kinder world, one story at a time. As such, we educate the public by sharing the stories and experiences of our residents to inspire compassion and understanding of the importance of farmed animal rescue and sanctuary. We offer humane educational programs and public tours to foster empathy and encourage positive change for farmed animals.
