MISSION:

We inspire Canadians to increase their literacy skills.

We connect and mobilize business, unions, government, communities and individuals to support lifelong learning.

We achieve our goals through leadership in programs, communications and partnerships.

ABC Life Literacy Canada (formerly ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation) is a non-profit organization that inspires Canadians to increase their literacy skills. We mobilize business, unions, government and communities to support lifelong learning and achieve our goals through leadership in programs, communications and partnerships. ABC Life Literacy Canada envisions a Canada where everyone has the skills they need to live a fully engaged life.

The organization was launched in 1990 – International Literacy Year – by a group of business, labour and education leaders concerned about the social and economic effects of wide-spread literacy challenges among Canadian adults. Four out of 10 adult Canadians, age 16 to 65 continue to struggle with low literacy.

Donations made to ABC CANADA are used for the following purposes:

1. Providing adult learners and their families with the tools and resources they need, such as Family Literacy Day, the Look Under Learn program and our financial literacy program, Money Matters

2. Engaging employers and unions to implement literacy and essential skills training in the workplace through initiatives such as Essential Skills Day and UP

3. Helping the public understand and support adult literacy and lifelong learning through initiatives such as social media outreach and the new program, Life Literacy Ambassadors;

4. Collaborating with and supporting the literacy field by providing tools and resources

5. Increasing ABC Life Literacy Canada’s effectiveness, including excellence in fundraising, sponsorship and communications.

About Our Charity
