Aboriginal Counseling Services Association of Alberta

about

Our Mission

The Aboriginal Counselling Services Association of Alberta (ACSA) is dedicated to supporting the healing, safety, and empowerment of Indigenous women, children, families, and communities. We provide culturally grounded, trauma-informed counselling and programs that integrate traditional teachings with professional practices, enabling individuals to restore balance spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically. Our mission is to create safe spaces for healing and growth, where people can walk proudly in their Indigenous identity and thrive within both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.

Our Philosophy

The work of ACSA is guided by the following beliefs and principles, which inform every program and service we deliver:

1. All people are deserving of respect, dignity, and compassion.

2. Healing is a lifelong journey that comes in many forms and must honor cultural identity.

3. All people have the capacity to grow, change, and reclaim their strengths.

4. True wellness requires balance of the spiritual, emotional, physical, and mental aspects of life.

5. Families and communities play a vital role in supporting safety, healing, and resilience.

6. Our commitment to reconciliation requires us to listen deeply, act with integrity, and ensure our actions speak louder than words.

About Aboriginal Counselling Services Association of Alberta

Since its founding, ACSA has worked to provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed services for Indigenous peoples across Alberta. We specialize in programs that address family violence, intergenerational trauma, addictions, grief, and systemic barriers facing Indigenous women and children. Through individual and family counselling, healing circles, cultural supports guided by Elders, and community-based prevention and intervention programs, we strive to meet the unique needs of those we serve.

While our services are created first and foremost for Indigenous peoples, they are open to all who seek healing in a respectful, culturally safe environment. Our approach recognizes that strong individuals build strong families, and strong families build resilient communities.

ACSA is committed to the highest standards of accountability in program delivery and financial stewardship, and we work in collaboration with governments, funders, community agencies, and Indigenous leadership to strengthen the safety and wellness of our communities.
