The 2017 wildfires have displaced many people in large and small BCcommunities. They’ve also given rise to many legal issues and questions.
In response to the 2017 wildfires, Access Pro Bono has:
- set up a free telephone advice service ( 1-877-762-6664 ) for affected people; and
- enlisted several volunteer lawyers to provide answers to frequently asked legal questions in different areas of law covered in separate information sheets (access via the following link: http://www.accessprobono.ca/news/2017/apb-offers-telephone-advice-service-legal-info-people-affected-bc-wildfires)
Crisis Overview: As of July 10th, 2017, 10,000 residents in British Columbia have been forced from their homes as 220 wildfires sweep the province. On July 7th, a state of emergency was declared within the province of British Columbia as 138 new fires were sparked that same day. Lighting has been attributed as the cause of the wildfires which have been fueled by dry conditions and strong winds only making the situation worse.
