This organization is designated by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) as a registered charity. They comply with the CRA's requirements and has been issued a charitable registration number.
Two major objectives of the organization are the development of various solutions to food security and social inclusion. With the annual delivery of seasonal baskets to immigrant and / or low-income families, we kill two birds with one stone. This year, delivery will take place on December 17, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. This program goes beyond basic food security needs, providing low-income families with supplies for a celebration, including a turkey dinner, or a vegetarian main course and toys for kids. It promotes social inclusion by giving newly arrived families a gift from their new community, letting them know that they are cared for.
Food insecurity is a major concern for low-income families in Parc-Extension and has been exacerbated due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Christmas basket distribution is an extension of our weekly food bank, the demand for which has nearly tripled since the start of the pandemic and has not declined since. We currently distribute approximately 350 food baskets per week. The pandemic has also intensified social isolation. Newly arrived families are often separated from their social support networks and are therefore already susceptible to isolation. This program is particularly important this year because of the high risk of isolation created by health measures related to the pandemic. We anticipate increased demand for this program due to these food insecure conditions and increased social isolation. We estimate that we will be delivering a total of 450 seasonal baskets this year.
