Up to One's Knees

The Up to One's Knees campaign is seeking to raise $300,000 to develop the second module of the MAP to MOTION information platform directed at advancing research, learning, and innovation around knee conditions.

With your gift in support of the Up to One's Knees campaign, you can help your aunt walk a block. You can help your neighbour do a flight of stairs. You can help your mother kneel in prayer. You can help your employees return to the worksite. You can help your friend recover from a soccer sprain.

As a weight-bearing joint, conditions in the knee are common and not only painful, but disabling and life altering. Specialist waiting lists are currently very long, those waiting for surgery are struggling, and little is known about those seeking treatment privately. Clinical leaders, researchers, and innovators are taking action to tackle health system barriers causing Albertans to suffer. We need your help to amass information around knee conditions to support them.

The Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute (ABJHI) is uniquely positioned to build a comprehensive map of knee health through MAP to MOTION, a first-of-its-kind information platform.

Driven by our vision of improved patient care, we have the ability to build a map across the seemingly immovable barriers of the complex health care system. With your support and donations, we can work to fill gaps in information along an Albertan’s care journey.

With MAP to MOTION, we're pushing the boundaries of bone and joint health information across the public health system, community health providers, and aspects of everyday life. With a new condition or an ongoing one, participants join the Up to One's Knees module at any point along their health journey. Through MAP to MOTION's online dashboard, participants receive feedback to better monitor their progress and recovery and interact with digital tools to assist in making informed health decisions. Participant's face less uncertainty about the treatment options available to them and have the information they need to figure out what to do next.

Care providers can deliver more effective knee care by helping map the unique experiences of Albertans. They can better understand factors like health behaviours and medication use that are impacting long-term outcomes of their patients. Through MAP to MOTION's digital tools, researchers integrate health and life science studies. There are fewer barriers in implementing knowledge translation tools or setting up a study to collect information.

With every phase of the knee journey, MAP to MOTION's digital tools will improve the participant's experience, channeling proven health concepts and technologies into actionable information. The rich source of anonymized data will fuel predictive analytics to identify the likelihood of health outcomes. Whether you personally suffer from knee injuries, back pain, inflammatory joint conditions, or not, there is much to be gained by accelerating research and investments towards prevention and more effective treatments.

Let's help keep people out of hospitals and clinics, out of diagnostic imaging cures, and living active, productive, and pain-free lives. Together, we can say goodbye to complex navigation and costly, ineffective treatments people face with their knee conditions.
