"Enriched Living Villas ~ Affordable Housing Project in Central Alberta"

Alberta Prairies Life Enrichment Training Studio Ltd.(APLETS) along with Nidus 3D, GS Communities, Central Alberta Brain Injury Society (CABIS) and Sorento Custom Homes have come together to develop a unique approach to the lack of affordable housing crisis that Central Alberta and all of Canada is facing.

Our partners have brought together the expertise of other Central Alberta community agencies and businesses as supporters of the “Enriched Living Villas” Project. Some of these agencies and businesses include; Trail Appliance, Seeds of Compassion, Elizabeth Fry Society, Red Deer Native Friendship Society, Central Alberta FASD Network, along with others.

The “Enriched Living Villas” Project is an innovative idea that brings together expert partners, supporters, volunteers and a plethora of unique components. The details are described as follows:

THE VISION

The Executive Director/Founder of Alberta Prairies Life Enrichment Training Studio Ltd had a vision that came to light over the last 7 years. As the vision grew and developed over this time it became clear that it was worth looking into. From here the “Enriched Living Villas Project” planning began.

THE DETAILS

Enriched Living Villas” will be a new build on a beautiful lot of land in the town of Blackfalds, Alberta in the McKay Ranch subdivision. There, our talented building partners will create ten 4-plexes and two 3-plexes to provide 43 affordable housing units which will house 77 Central Albertans who require them most.

We envision the residents of the “Enriched Living Villas” will be: individuals and families who are struggling to make ends meet due to inflation of costs of living; citizens who have completed addiction rehabilitation and/or other community programs and do not have secured housing to start their new path; individuals who are AISH/Income Support recipients; people who are elderly and still able to live mostly on their own; Indigenous peoples; individuals with special needs and/or disabilities who are able to live mostly independently; immigrants and immigrant families; LGBTQ2S+ individuals and any other citizens who fall within the Household Income Limits (HILS) as outlined by the Alberta Housing Act. The majority of residents of the “Enriched Living Villas” will come from referrals sent by Central Alberta Community Agencies, Community Housing Programs, Government Agencies and Partners.

Any individuals and/or families who are already involved in services at any community agencies will continue to access the supports they require. There is accessible transit to and from the City of Red Deer and Town of Blackfalds for the residents to continue to access any services, programs, appointments and businesses they may require.

The “Enriched Living Villas” staff will also make any necessary referrals to community agencies and partners for residents who may require more specialized support such as mental health, addictions, medical support, other special needs etc.

The project will provide residents with on-site specifically trained Life Enrichment Support Workers, with some being able to drive residents to appointments when no other transit is available and Supportive Security Personnel which will offer a more supportive, safe, and healthy living environment.

The residents will have access to on-site emotional support animals to interact with, raise, help feed, groom and care for.

Other amenities include: access to nourishment through a “Pantry” with stable food/grocery supplies; a community garden to offer fresh vegetables and fruits to the residents with some also provided by agency partner’s “Seeds of Compassion”, local farmers and other donations; an on-site common area for movie showings, celebrations, family events, holiday meals and a non-alcohol pub with music, snacks, non-alcoholic beverages etc. (a small, very reasonable fee will be charged for food and beverages)

Staff of the project will provide assistance and referrals to acquire furnishings, décor and/or any other items the residents require for their homes.

Each unit will be equipped with a fridge, stove, dishwasher, washer/dryer, anti-slip product on bottom of all bath tubs/showers and safety bars inside bathtub/shower area and on the wall as the resident is exiting the bathtub/shower. (Other safety measures for specific instances will be reviewed at the time of inquiry and if deemed a requirement, will be installed)

These components are just a beginning of the vision for the “Enriched Living Villas Project”.
