about

Our Mission

The Alberta Sports and Recreation Association for the Blind (ASRAB) supports Albertans who are blind or visually impaired to live physically active lives and participate in competitive sports programs.  We do this by:

  • providing development and competitive sport programs, and
  • supporting and encouraging the blind or visually impaired to actively participate in a broad spectrum of sport and recreation programs.

Our Work

We work across Alberta to promote blind sports, provide adapted programming and to foster a positive and safe community for all individuals with a visual impairment.   We offer a wide range of recreational activities, from yoga to blind hockey to dragon boating. By teaching fundamental movements skills to children and youth with visual impairments we help to develop physical literacy to try any sport and create lifelong habits of physical activity.

ASRAB is the provincial organization for Goalball, the only Paralympic sport designed specifically for individuals with visual impairments. Our athletes and coaches have represented Canada in both the Para Pan-American Games and the Paralympics.

Your support allows children and adults with visual impairments across Alberta to experience what it’s like to join a team, to gain confidence through physical activity, to challenge themselves to be the best athlete they can be.
