Our Mission
The mission of the Windsor-Essex County ALS Society is to assist persons and their families living with ALS in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent counties, and contributing to research that leads to a cure.
About ALS Society of Essex County
Our organization focuses on the needs of people living with ALS in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent counties. We help provide information and various equipments to patients in order to meet the many challenges that ALS can present. We support the research of Dr. Michael Strong and provide annual Studentship funding.
What Does Our Society Do?
We are a volunteer charitable organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for those afflicted with this disease and supporting research to eradicate ALS. Our organization started in 1983, was formalized in 1984. and was incorporated with charitable tax status in 2000.
Funds raised support patient services in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent counties, and include:
- Helping to provide basic to intricate mobility and communication equipment
- Providing information and support through support group meetings (currently on hiatus due to COVID-19)
- Providing in-service programs for health care professionals
- Providing in-home visiting to support allied healthcare workers
- Publishing a newsletter
- Organizing fundraising events to help support our mission
- Raising public awareness
We also support research projects and provide funding for a Student Fellowship at the London Health Sciences Hospital under the direction of Dr. Michael Strong.
