Since 1982, Alternative Naissance has been offering support to women and pregnant people, couples, and families throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period.

The organization’s mission is to promote the humanization of pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period.

Our mission is embodied primarily through free, personalized services:

• Individualized support offered by our birth companions and perinatal home-support workers: birth support, postnatal support, and support through perinatal loss.

• Themed workshops: childbirth preparation, babywearing, infant massage, mindful childbirth, art therapy, Red Tent for difficult births, co-parenting, etc.

• Free lending of perinatal equipment: hospital-grade breast pumps, baby carriers, car seats, books.

The organization is also active in public spaces (neighbourhood celebrations, events, etc.), and we continually work to raise awareness among community and institutional workers about perinatal issues.

Alternative Naissance also offers training programs to become a birth or postnatal companion, as well as continuing education: supporting twin pregnancies, attachment and proximal parenting, babywearing, breastfeeding support, infant massage, high-risk pregnancy, etc.

In 2023, Alternative Naissance provided:

• 178 birth support services

• 105 postnatal support services

• 14 perinatal bereavement support services (voluntary or involuntary pregnancy loss)
