HELP US GROW OUR WILDLIFE CORRIDOR!
At Amazon Rainforest Conservancy Northern Peru (ARCNP), we are working tirelessly to create a wildlife corridor connecting the two mountain ranges of the Cordillera Escalera Regional Conservation Area.
WHY THIS PROJECT MATTERS
Camera trap evidence shows significant wildlife activity crossing this valley. Unfortunately, these animals – particularly the region’s jaguars - are often shot by local farmers. It is estimated that only 15,000 jaguars remain in the wild. Their last refuge is in the Amazon rainforest.
OUR PROGRESS SO FAR
Since 2022, ARCNP has purchased 9 farms, totaling 394 acres! Reforestation of the former cattle pastures inherited through these land purchases is a key component of the project. Our six forest guardians collect the healthiest seeds from hardwood trees and bring them back to our nursery. Once these seeds mature into saplings, they are planted back in the valley.
WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
Our camera traps continue to capture footage of healthy jaguars and other big cats. We’ve seen ocelots, margays, pumas, and jaguarundis. We also captured remarkable footage of an Andean bear safely wandering across our land! This rare and charismatic bear is the only bear species native to South America. Population isolation and restricted access to essential feeding grounds have left the Andean bear critically endangered.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED
Quite simply, without people like you, we couldn’t continue this vital work. Your generosity makes our projects possible. We are incredibly grateful to all our supporters for standing with us to protect and preserve the Amazon rainforest.
Join us in expanding, reforesting, and safeguarding critical habitat corridors to ensure the survival and growth of wildlife in the region.
