Hospital Chaplaincy

The Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth has provided hospital chaplaincy for over twenty years. Currently, the Archdiocese provides chaplaincy services at the QEII and the Veterans Memorial Hospital. On average at these hospitals, there are approximately 300 Catholic patients at any given time.

In health care institutions, priest chaplains and qualified lay chaplains, called to embody the healing power of Jesus, are employed by the Archdiocese to provide a compassionate presence, and sacramental and spiritual care to patients/ residents, families, and staff at these facilities.

In addition to providing chaplaincy services, the Archdiocese provides denominational endorsement for lay persons wishing to study and for those seeking employment as chaplains, according to the standards of the Canadian Association for Pastoral Practice and Education (CAPPE).

To continue providing hospital chaplaincy and assistance in training priest chaplains and lay persons called to this ministry, we ask you to prayerfully consider partnering with us by donating to this appeal.
