About Artists for Peace and Justice Canada
We believe that education is a basic human right.
APJ Canada was founded by artists, creators and advocates who responded with relief efforts after the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti killed more than 85,000 people and rendered 1.6 million homeless. During this time we learned that while Haiti had made great strides to ensure access to primary schooling, 70% of youth still could not afford to continue onto secondary education. Affordable institutions just didn’t exist for ten year old kids to go on beyond 5th grade. As a result, we saw the opportunity to make a true impact in the rebuilding effort and we helped build the first free secondary school in Port-au-Prince. The Academy for Peace and Justice which provides middle and high school education to more than 4,000 youth between the ages of 11-20.
APJ Canada is proud to follow a 100% policy – 100% of public donations go directly to our programs in Haiti. All operating costs are covered in separate donations so that every dollar you give makes an impact.
In order to sustain our support for the Academy, and meet continuing demand funds are required on an ongoing basis. We appreciate your consideration to ensure we continue to make an impact!
