Small story of a great adventure

‘Association Grandir’ was founded in 1984 in Charny, a suburb of Quebec City region. The goal was to restore confidence in life to people who missed it - through disability, abandonment or other distress.

The first 20 years were devoted to fostering and adopting children, mostly with severe disabilities, at the initiative of the couple of departure. Other couples have joined it out of friendship, to train at fostering or to come and help.

At that time, Association Grandir received the ‘Prix du Mérite familial’ from the Centre d'action bénévole de Québec. The children grew up, others died...

In 2017, Association Grandir was given a new lease of life: it first came to support the ‘Accorderie de Québec’ for a while, then relaunched its own projects, focused on two axes: intergenerational and intercultural. The book 'Les Histoires de Mamie et Papi' has earned him the appreciation of Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada.

Association Grandir has now chosen to support the 'Cultures au coeur' project (www.culturesaucoeur.org). Initiated in 2013, it aims to promote the gift of our diverse cultural heritages and to support the integration of refugee families in the Quebec City region.
