This year, the AJC is partnering to provide support to a community shelter, Out of the Cold (St. Matthew’s United Church, 1479 Barrington Street, Halifax), from January-April. As part of this partnership, we are organizing volunteers to prep hot meals and other food items to be given away by the shelter throughout the winter.
All donations made to this fund will go 100% to purchasing food and items required to prepare these meals for Out of the Cold.
More about the organization:
"Out of the Cold is a community-based, volunteer-run organization which provides shelter, support and a community drop-in space for people who are homeless or precariously housed in the HRM. Out of the Cold aims to be a low barrier and operates from a harm reduction philosophy; our guests are often unable to access other shelters and services in the city. We have been in operation over the winter months since 2008. Out of the Cold relies on the generous support of the community to provide dinner and bagged lunches every day for our guests, as well as staff the shelter and help with behind-the-scenes tasks."
