Autism Community

about

Autism Community is a charitable organization founded by parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders to support and facilitate the development of services and strategies to meet the needs of families like ours in the Niagara Region.   As parents ourselves, we understand the need for support for the day-to-day challenges of living with autism and the importance of sharing our experiences to build a community guided by a vision of understanding, inclusion and empowerment.

Autism Community is 100% volunteer-run and is deeply committed to the idea of families, individuals with autism, service providers and communities working together to help individuals and families with the challenges of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)

Currently, Autism Community offers two programs.

Facing Your Fears is a group-based anxiety management program for children with ASD based on the proven Cognitive Behavioral Therapeutic (CBT) approach. A majority of individuals with ASD experience significant anxiety symptoms in addition to their autism. This program teaches personal anxiety management strategies to help children cope with their stresses and fears, and is the only program addressing this need in the Niagara Region. Facing Your Fears also teaches parents how to effectively support their children's efforts and learning.

My Life As An EPIC WIN: Transitioning to Adulthood Program is a program which helps teens and young adults with ASD to explore their life goals and develop a plan to take positive steps toward achieving them.

Our Vision:
