Barrhead Animal Rescue Society (BARS) was founded in 2010 with the rescue of a single stray cat in the town of Barrhead, Alberta. Since then we have rehomed over 3500 cats and dogs and provided help to many more, including feral cats in Parkland County which we support as part of our Boulder Boulevard Spay/Neuter & Release program. BARS also provides spay and neuter support of owned companion animals to low income families in several communities such as Barrhead County, Tri Municipal Region and Westlock County.
BARS aims to increase awareness of and education about responsible pet ownership, fight to improve animal rights in Alberta, and rescue and rehome companion animals who have lost their homes or who were born into homelessness. We are entirely run by volunteers so all donations go directly to supporting our rescued animals.
