Discover Parks & Trails

Help inspire British Columbians and guests to discover, experience and care for nature

Our parks are part of who we are, and home to our countless stories and memories. Yet BC is one of only two places in North America that has no parks interpretation. By empowering locals to tell stories, we can both animate our parks for visitors, and increase local pride and stewardship.

Discover Trails is an interactive trail network that create powerful lifelong learning, healthier lifestyles, cultural connections and stewards for the future.

The Story Trail in Tsútswecw Provincial Park, in the traditional territory of the Secwépemc people, is the first trail in the network, opening in June 2019. It is an interpretive trail that tells the story of the native plants and landscape features in the area through the voices of students from Chase Secondary School's Secwépemctsin language class.

- Donate $26.51 to create a story trail sign that will engage countless visitors.

- Donate $39.75 to support volunteers with the materials and transportation to create and install story trail signs.

- Donate $66.25 to help produce video, audio and other content for the story trail.

Our engaging Story Trail initiative both raises awareness and makes it easy, fun and rewarding to be out. Part of the trail talks about the threats of invasive species and people walking off trails, and what visitors can do to reduce these threats. Our strategy for success involves working with community partners and local tourism marketing organizations to create a province-wide network of Story Trails that make you want to visit a park to walk the next one.

By helping us work with local partners to create Story Trails, you are creating unique and authentic visitor experiences, helping transfer knowledge between generations, and building pride and stewardship in our parks. The Trails showcase British Columbia by British Columbians, telling our unique stories to our children and the world.
