Blind River Emergency Food Bank

about

The Blind River Emergency Food Bank, operated by volunteers, assists people coping with food insecurity due to financial difficulty. It serves individuals living in the Town of Blind River, Township of the North Shore and Municipality of Huron Shores.

Volunteers serve clients on Thursdays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. People must register before receiving service, which is provided once per month unless there are special circumstances. Each household receives a four-day supply of non-perishable food. Households also receive perishable food (milk, eggs, bread, frozen products) and fresh produce, depending upon availability.

The food bank operates a yard sale to raise money for food purchases, facility rental and utilities. Donations of used household items are accepted for the yard sale. The food bank also accepts financial donations and issues receipts for income tax purposes.

The Blind River Emergency Food Bank is a non-profit corporation and a member of Feed Ontario, the provincial association of food banks. During the annual general meeting, held in March, food bank members elect a board of directors which meets monthly to conduct the business of the corporation.
