Exceptional theatre in the heart of Bloor West Village
We at the Village have been missing live theatre a lot, as much as we are sure you have been missing it and other social activity during this long period of COVID constraints. Much as we embrace various technologies like Zoom, nothing can replace the experience of live activity and contact.
We’re thrilled to tell you that we have re-opened the theatre for the first time since March 2020 with a live show: LOVE LETTERS by AR Gurney (September 17 to October 9, 2021)
But we still need your help. Last year we appealed to you, our audience — the most vital part of our community — when we launched a fundraising campaign. You responded very generously and we raised over $60,000. We thank you for your tremendous support from the bottom of our hearts!
The coming year will be a strong indicator of our ability to survive long-term. As long as physical distancing is necessary, we will only be able to seat a limited number of patrons for each performance, and so we will have reduced income. Moreover, we still cannot offer subscriptions, which normally cover most of our yearly fixed costs, such as rent, for a season. Additionally, we have extra expenses: ensuring our air is of top quality, and providing extra cleaning and protective materials. We anticipate this situation to continue for an unknown period of time.
We have been able, over many years, to build up a small emergency reserve by being fiscally responsible. We are very proud to have operated so successfully for over 47 seasons. Largely due to the success of last year's fundraising, some rent relief and a government grant, we did not have to dip into that reserve.
This year, we have set ourselves the goal of raising $50,000 in order to retain our reserve funds. Your help would make our day (year).
