BGC Leduc Youth Centre Project

Building a Youth Centre for Leduc’s Future by BGC Leduc

About Us: BGC Leduc is the largest child and youth social service provider in the Leduc region. Every day, we work alongside young people ages 6 to 18 to help them reach their full potential. Our programs include after-school support, mentorship, leadership development, employment readiness, mental health resources, social recreational opportunities, confidence boosters and more. We’re here for ALL youth, but especially the youth who need us most—and that need is growing. As our community continues to expand, so does the demand for safe, supportive spaces for teens. Our current facility has served us well, but it’s no longer enough. That’s why we’re taking a bold next step: building a new, purpose-built Youth Centre right here in Leduc.

The Vision: We are launching a $2.5 million capital campaign to build a permanent Youth Centre that will meet the needs of young people today—and tomorrow. This new space will be the first of its kind in our city: a welcoming, inclusive hub designed specifically for youth, co-created with youth, and focused on connection, growth, and opportunity. Our goal is simple: to create a safe, vibrant space where every teen in Leduc and the surrounding area feels like they belong.

Why It Matters: Leduc is one of the fastest-growing communities in Alberta. Youth and families are moving here in increasing numbers—but the infrastructure to support them has not kept pace. Young people in our region are facing real challenges:

-Limited access to affordable after-school and evening programs

-Transportation barriers, especially for rural youth

-Rising mental health concerns

-A lack of inclusive, dedicated spaces for youth to gather, learn, and grow

Right now, there is no permanent youth center in Leduc. As a Boys and Girls Club, that’s an opportunity we feel called to fill—urgently and intentionally.

What the Youth Centre Will Offer:This new facility will serve as a central hub for BGC Leduc’s youth (aged 12+) programs, while also offering new spaces and services that reflect what young people are asking for:-After-school drop-in and evening programming-Creative and recreational spaces for art, music, games, and tech-Leadership and life skill development-Employment readiness workshops and support-Mental health and wellness activities-A commercial kitchen for meals, workshops, and food security support-A “Hop-On, Hop-Off” rural transportation program to bring youth from Leduc County into the city to participate!

Designed with Youth, for Youth: From the very beginning, young people have helped shape this project. Through surveys at schools, meetings with City of Leduc Youth Council and discussions with our Club kids and teens, they’ve told us what matters most: youth friendly spaces to relax and recharge, areas for creativity and fun, flexible rooms for various workshops and programs, and with adults they can trust. We’re taking all of that to heart—and working with them every step of the way.

Timeline and PhasesWe’re working closely with the City of Leduc, BGC Canada, and trusted builders and consultants to bring this project to life. Our work is happening in four key phases:

>Design and Planning (2025-2026): Finalizing building plans, final site selection, and service models with youth input

>Fundraising and Partnership Building 2026-2027): Raising $2.5 million in capital support through public, private, and philanthropic partners

>Construction (2026-2027): Shovels in the ground!

>Opening (Fall 2027/Early 2028): Launching the center with full programming and a celebration for the community

This Project Will Serve:-Teens (grades 7 to 12) building confidence, friendships, and life skills.

-Special projects and opportunities for young adults (ages 17–24) preparing for employment and adulthood.

-Summer Camp and Out of School Programming Opportunities, a growing demand in our region
