Bread and Beyond is a community-based organization which works to connect local communities with shelters working with people in a homeless, transient or vulnerable situation in Montreal.
Through a network of volunteers we make and deliver a reliable supply of sandwiches to 8 shelters in Montreal. We are currently delivering an average of 3000 sandwiches each week.
We also use this pathway to organize monthly ‘Beyond’ campaigns which aim to collect donations of essential items to deliver with the sandwiches. Guidance is taken from the shelters to ensure that we respond to the client’s current needs.
We use the sandwich bags as a vehicle to share art and communicate messages of support and encouragement.
Finally, we use our platform inform and educate to allow people to explore and challenge the stigma, disconnection, misunderstanding and negative attitudes we see so frequently directed towards people experiencing homelessness.
