After years of war in the North Kivu province of the DRC many families were torn apart by war or famine. This generally results in the "breadwinner", formally the man of the family, to not be present and leave a widowed wife with multiple dependents. This project connects families who have suffered the effects of wars and empowers women to act in groups within their local communities and villages. With this money we purchase supplies for these groups of widows to be able to basket-weave, and thus generate their own source of income to support their families. Bright Lights for Africa helps by purchasing the raw materials needed to be able to make high quality baskets these women can sell at markets across the province.
