Through fundraising efforts, the Butters Foundation promotes the integration of intellectually disabled and autistic persons from the eastern part of La Monteregie into their local communities. Since its inception in 1976, this has been accomplished through the provision of housing and other innovative projects targeting families and their disabled children. In keeping with developments in the field of intellectual disorders, recently the Foundation expanded its mission to target the provision of specialized services to disabled persons with severe behavioural problems. This has led the Foundation to promote innovative projects in association with its longstanding public rehab partner, the CRDI Monteregie-Est, to encourage new best practices in the public rehab system in Quebec and beyond.
The Butters Foundation is pledged to build social capacity to improve the quality of life of intellectually disabled and autistic persons, and to improve the ability of families to raise disabled children and their siblings in the 21st century.
About BUTTERS FOUNDATION
The Butters Foundation is dedicated to the promotion of the legacy of Mrs. Lily Butters. Mrs. Butters supported the families of intellectually disabled children by providing a home for disabled children in need in the Eastern Townships and a lifeline for parents with nowhere else to turn. She welcomed children into her home which continually grew to a six-building campus along the shores of Lake Memphremagog.
We continue her legacy by providing timely supports to families confronted with the challenge of raising a disabled or autistic child.
