"You never know what you're going to get..."
Camerata Nova is a vocal group without fear, performing Renaissance, contemporary and Indigenous-infused music. Often singing a cappella, the group also enjoys innovative collaborations and accompaniment from all kinds of instruments and soundscapes. Since 1996, the group has continually accented the unusual, offering authentic early music performances, premieres of Manitoba compositions and an eclectic array in between. Camerata Nova has issued four CDs: Camerata Nova, Mystica, Nova Noël and Camerata Nova Live: Christmas in Early America, as well as a DVD Wa Wa Tey Wak (Northern Lights). Camerata Nova is led by a quartet of extraordinary individuals: Artistic Director and Resident Composer Andrew Balfour, and Music Directors Mel Braun, Vic Pankratz and John Wiens.
To perform early, contemporary and Indigenous vocal chamber concerts for local, national and international audiences, offering excellence, experimentation and collaboration. We express the Prairie urban and Indigenous reality, we give our audiences the opportunity to learn about and experience early music, we support Manitoba choral composers/performers and we work to build engagement both within our group and with the community.
Camerata Nova continues to evolve in an imaginative, risk-taking, quirky way. Our strengths are innovative programming, collaboration, community and surprise. We are known locally for expressing the Prairie urban reality, offering top-quality early music performances and developing Manitoba musicians. We are known nationally for our commissions and pioneer work with contemporary Indigenous music. We reach up, we reach out, but our roots are deep in Prairie soil.
Without support, art exists. With support, art flourishes. Thank you so much for your support!
