Camp Tamarack is now widely known as a reputable summer program for people with and without disabilities.
Camp Tamarack operates barrier-free programs that include a summer youth camp, outdoor education and nature-based programs and programs for team building and personal growth. Camp Tamarack is the only inclusive camp operating north of Edmonton in Alberta. Programs encourage an increased awareness of natural environment. Both disabled and able-bodied users benefit from increased sensitivity to nature and themselves, learn to respect the planet’s resources and environment, and benefit from renewed learning experiences using all their senses.
The Camp Tamarack facilities are developed integrating the necessary structures into the site with minimal impact on the natural environment and leave the area as undisturbed as possible. Primary consideration in the facilities is that Camp Tamarack function as a camp and outdoor education facility for everyone, not bringing attention to it being a facility designed for the disabled. The Camp is run in this manner because the Camp Tamarack organization believes in opportunity and dignity for all people. Users of Camp Tamarack include youth ages 4 to 18, school groups from the region, community groups (Girl Guides, Explorers, Brownies, Scouts, Cubs, church groups), First Nations groups, government and business users, and families. Adult Camp provides the opportunity for adults living with physical and/or mental challenges to come together and enjoy life at camp. Prior to the pandemic, our barrier free programs had annually over 440 summer campers, 1750 youth in school groups plus weekend groups amounting to a total over 2,200 participants creating over 16,750 youth impacts. We successfully relaunched Camp Tamarack’s programs in 2022. This year the enrollment has been great with many programs at full capacity. The Summer Camp and Outdoor Experience programs are back on track and growing.
We are embarking on a robust fundraising campaign that will guarantee the continued operation and safety of our facility and secure a sustainable financial foundation for ongoing operations. We are seeking an initial 5 year commitment from 200 individuals or businesses, each pledging $500 per year to Camp Tamarack. Please consider joining the Friends of Camp Tamarack 500 Club. Your donations of any amount will be sincerely appreciated. Your financial support is need now. Thank you for your support.
