CAMPBELL RIVER AND NORTH ISLAND TRANSITION SOCIETY

about

Our Mission

Through a feminist framework, we serve those experiencing gender inequality by providing safe shelter, support for mental health and substance use, and access to resources

Since 1985, the Campbell River and North Island Transition Society (CRNITS) has been a lifeline for women, children and their pets who are fleeing violence, facing homelessness, or navigating the challenges of mental health and substance use challenges.

Through compassionate, empowering support, CRNITS supports women in breaking the cycle of abuse, rebuild their lives, and create brighter, safer futures for themselves and their families.

The Society assists women who are fleeing abuse and seeking emergency shelter at the Ann Elmore Transition House, or at one or our safe homes in remote locations. Our counselling services benefit women who are overcoming trauma and other challenges, while our residential recovery program addresses substance misuse issues. Women who are unsheltered or struggling through poverty benefit from our residential personal change program and from supportive resources and poverty relief available at our drop-in center.

But here’s a sobering truth: more than 35% of the women accessing our drop-in center are seniors over the age of 55. Many are homeless or are in imminent risk of homelessness.

Eagle Harbour, our latest initiative offers subsidized second-stage and permanent housing, with a special focus on senior women in need

For over four decades, CRNITS has remained committed to addressing the root causes of violence against women. From emergency response for those in crisis to long-term healing programs, our mission is clear: to help women reclaim their safety, dignity, and future.

With your support, we can continue to expand these vital services—for women, children, and our entire community. Together, we can build a future free from violence, where every woman has the opportunity to thrive.
