Royal Winnipeg Ballet

The mandate of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet is "to enrich the human experience by teaching, creating and performing outstanding dance".  We carry out this mandate through the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, founded in 1939, and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, Recreational Division (1962) and Professional Division (1972).  The company's repertoire is known to be eclectic and entertaining and offers a balanced mix of the classics, both full-length and shorter works, masterpieces of the twentieth century and new work commissioned by and for the RWB.  The RWB usually employs 26 dancers and 2 apprentices on annual contracts for home season performances and tours across North America and around the world.   For 55 years, the RWB School has been inspiring young artists and supporting them in the pursuit of their goals. The School's state-of the-art facility, located in historic downtown Winnipeg, is home to more than 1,500 students annually who make up the Professional and Recreational Divisions of the School. The RWB also has an active and robust community outreach program.  The RWB believes that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the beauty and artistry of a live ballet performance and world class instruction and to that end, offers a variety of outreach programs to engage schools and community groups.   The RWB employs 170 paid staff and is governed by a ten member Board of Directors.
