CMV Canada is a national charity focused on preventing congenital CMV and supporting families affected across the country.
The Canadian CMV Foundation is a national charity dedicated to preventing congenital CMV infections and improving the quality of life for those affected across Canada.
Our vision is a world without congenital CMV.
Congenital CMV (cytomegalovirus) is the leading infectious cause of birth defects in Canada, yet most people have never heard of it. Up to 1 in 200 babies are born with CMV, and 1 in 5 of them will have lifelong disabilities such as hearing loss or developmental delays.
We are working to change that.
CMV Canada focuses on:
- Raising awareness through public education, healthcare provider resources, social media, and national campaigns
- Supporting families with caregiver tools, local resources, and peer connections
- Advocating for change by pushing for universal newborn CMV screening across all provinces and territories
- Funding research that advances vaccine development, screening, and treatment options
CMV is common and often goes unnoticed in healthy people. But for pregnant women, especially those living with or caring for young children, it can be serious. CMV spreads through saliva and urine, and the risk of transmission during pregnancy is 1 in 4.
With your support, we can protect more babies, support more families, and move closer to eliminating congenital CMV in Canada.
