BTC is a children's mental health, early intervention, and addiction program for pregnant people and/or parents of children under 6 years
Breaking the Cycle is a program of Mothercraft, delivered through a formal service partnership with Toronto Public Health, the Hospital for Sick Children, St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Toronto Western Hospital – Mental Health and Addictions, the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, the Catholic Children’s Aid Society, St. Michael’s Hospital and the Ministry of the Solicitor General. Breaking the Cycle is an early intervention-children’s mental health program designed to reduce the risk and enhance the development of substance-exposed children by addressing substance use issues and the parent-child relationship.
Programs are delivered through an integrated cross-systemic service model and serve people who are pregnant and/or parents who identify as transgendered, gender diverse, and cis genered women who are parenting children under the age of six. Admission to the program requires that parents be willing to participate in addiction, parenting, and child developmental services.
Breaking the Cycle includes a pregnancy outreach component serving pregnant people with substance use problems through street outreach, individual counseling, and intensive case management. The BTC Pregnancy Outreach Program is designed to enhance pregnancy and fetal health outcomes by facilitating access to health and social supports, including addiction treatment, prenatal care, and safe housing.
