Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame

about

Since 1993, the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame (CMHF) has inducted 327 individuals and organizations in recognition of their achievements and contributions to Canadian motorsport, earning them a place among the sport’s most celebrated figures. This growing community of competitors, builders, significant contributors and media professionals reflects the depth and diversity of Canada’s racing heritage and its ongoing influence on the world stage.

The CMHF was officially inaugurated in 1993 and welcomed its first class of inductees that same year. At the beginning, recognition panels were displayed within Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame at the Canadian National Exhibition grounds in Toronto. Space was extremely limited. Only one car could be shown, the 1983 March IndyCar driven by Jacques Villeneuve Sr., but the display captured the imagination of motorsport fans and hinted at the potential of a dedicated national institution.

As public interest and the list of inductees grew, so did the Hall. In November 1997, the CMHF moved to a 7,500 square foot gallery at 777 Bay Street in downtown Toronto. This larger space allowed the Hall to mount more extensive exhibits, celebrate more inductees and host a wide range of events. Over the following years, the CMHF experimented with several temporary locations as it searched for a permanent home capable of matching its expanding mandate.

Through all these moves, the Hall remained focused on its original mission: to honour and recognize Canadians who have made a significant contribution to the world of motorsport. That commitment has guided the CMHF from its first display panels to the vibrant national institution it is today.

Now the Hall’s permanent home is online, where we continue to expand and enrich our digital archives. This platform makes Canada’s motorsport legacy accessible to fans, researchers and future generations everywhere, showcasing the uniquely Canadian stories that have shaped the sport at home and abroad. By supporting the CMHF, donors help us protect this history, shine a spotlight on Canadian excellence and inspire the next generation of motorsport leaders.
