Canadian School Libraries (CSL) is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to professional research and development in the field of the school library learning commons in Canada.
Learners have a right to expect excellent libraries in every school in Canada. Our school libraries should reflect our common values of equity, diversity, and cultural identity as well as best approaches in the educational and library professions. They should be contextually relevant to student need and success. and built, cared for, measured, renewed and sustained on an ongoing basis by their learning communities. We should position school libraries to lead learning for the future.
Canadian School Libraries is dedicated to this mission.
Canadian School Libraries:
Connects school library practitioners and educators across Canada in the collaborative pursuit of delivering exemplary practices reflective of current professional school library learning commons standards.
Maintains national standards for school library learning commons and publishes them in English and French. hosts a biennial research symposium and think tank dedicated to developing “made in Canada” research capacity and associated knowledge into school library learning commons practice, and archiving all associated research.
Publishes the only national journal dedicated to school library learning commons practice, the Canadian School Libraries Journal. Builds timely resources to support professional practice, such as the Collection Diversity Toolkit and the CSL Research Toolkit.
Supports a strong network between provincial and territorial school library associations across the country, and represents Canada's school libraries in national and international contexts.
