about

Canadian Veteran Service Dog Unit (CVSDU)

CVDSU is a membership based, veteran operated registered charity.  Our mission is to train and provide Service Dogs, free of charge, to Veterans or First Responders, who have served and are suffering from PTSD.

Over the past two decades, society’s understanding of trauma and its impact has evolved significantly, as has the approach to supporting those who struggle with its effects. Whether encountered on the battlefield, at the scene of a crime or accident, during a building fire, natural disaster or terrorist attack , military personnel, police officers, firefighters and paramedics face a much higher risk of experiencing severe trauma than the general population.

One of the ways those who struggle with PTSD have been able to recover and gain control over their lives again, has been with the assistance of a Service Dog.

To date, CVSDU has trained and qualified 65 Service Dog Teams, but we have a waiting list of requests for Service Dogs.  The cost of purchasing a puppy, raising, socializing, and training it to become a certified Service Dog has increased dramatically.
