Puppies chosen for the Fostering Our Puppies Program live with their foster families from the time of purchase until they reach 14-15 months old when they are paired with veterans and first responders suffering from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Our Foster families follow carefully selected guidelines and directions of Puppy Program staff in caring for and training of their puppies. The primary mission of the foster family is to develop good behaviour in the home environment as well as exposing their puppy to various urban, rural and social environments on a regular basis. Service dogs will work in these environments in the future.
Our puppies are fed the highest quality food that suits their individual needs. As well, there is the cost of equipment, kennels, collars, leashes, walking gear, and more. The Canadian Veteran Service Dog Unit covers these costs for our foster families and they are getting more expensive each year.
