The Caravan is a non-profit professional theatre company touring original spectacle on the decks of the Caravan’s 100ft theatre ship.
The Caravan Stage Society sponsors the Caravan Stage Company, a most unique performing arts company that tours original multi-media shows about socially relevant and topical issues on the decks and in the rigging of a 90 ft sailing vessel while audiences watch from the shore.
The company started in 1970, as a outdoor theatre company traveling from town to town with wagons pulled by horse drawn wagons and performing in a large tensile tent.
In 1993, the company decided to travel further and faster so they built a theatre ship, Amara Zee. With a crew of performers and theatre technicians, the Caravan toured all over the east coast of Canada and the US. Then from 2005 to 2013, the company crossed the Atlantic to tour in the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Slovenia and Italy. Now back in North America, the ship and company are presenting their style of spectacle theatre to audiences on the west coast of Canada and the US. The shows incorporate drama, aerial artistry, video and cinematic projections, large puppets with an original musical score
