Who we are:
Caregivers Nova Scotia (CNS) are the ambassadors for unpaid family and friend caregivers across the province. Our vision is that unpaid caregivers are recognized, valued, and fully supported as essential partners in care.
What we do:
CNS provides individual support to caregivers through confidential telephone calls and e-mail, including information on navigating the healthcare system, government services, and other programs offered by community partners such as home care, snow removal, meal programs, and specialized equipment loans.
We offer peer support groups across the province allowing caregivers the freedom and opportunity to share their experiences, express their feelings, and ask questions among peers. Support groups occur in a confidential, safe environment with a knowledgeable, trained staff member who can offer follow-up support and services.
We also deliver educational workshops on relevant topics including caregiver stress management, advanced care planning, oral care, and safe medicines for seniors and caregivers.
Caregivers Nova Scotia are the leading advocates for policy change and increased services and supports for the 1 in 3 Nova Scotians who are providing some form of unpaid care to a family member or friend. CNS uses valuable, first-hand feedback from caregivers to educate healthcare professionals, government bodies, and the general public on caregiver needs and experiences.
All services, programs, and supports offered by Caregivers Nova Scotia are provided at no cost.
