You might be asking yourself "Why would a cat rescue be running a fundraising campaign for wood pellets?" Well, here at Cats Anonymous we use them as cat litter instead of the standard clay or clumping litter. Wood pellets have proven to work really well for us. The high absorbency of wood helps with smell, because the pellets quickly soak up the urine and neutralize its odor. Another bonus is that there is less dust and tracking than traditional cat litter. Since we have to completely change and disinfect litterboxes every day for health and hygiene, the pellets save us money because we use less of them daily. And on the eco-friendly side of things, wood pellets are biodegradable and more environmentally friendly than clay litter.
On average, Cats Anonymous would use 300 (40lb) bags of wood pellets a year. That works out to 12,000 lbs of pellets which is the average size of an African Elephant. That is a lot of wood pellets! Obviously we can't store that much at the shelter, so we bring in 6 skid loads throughout the year.
Our Cost:
To get 6 deliveries of a skid load of wood pellets costs us $2,800 per year (includes, delivery, & taxes). As with everything else these days, we know that prices will increase in 2023.
Our goal for this campaign is to raise $3,000 to cover the cost of wood pellets for 2023. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
