Honoring the Life and Legacy of Shayla Nguyen

This year, we mourn the loss of Shayla Nguyen, a beloved member of the CBFY family, who tragically lost her battle with cancer. Shayla’s journey with CBFY was truly inspiring, starting as a student in the NxtGen program, moving on to a facilitator-in-training during the ASP summer program, becoming a full-fledged facilitator, and finally serving as an ASP coordinator. Her commitment to CBFY reflects a beautiful full-circle moment, where she not only benefited from our programs but chose to give back in meaningful ways after completing her university studies.

Shayla was a vibrant, sweet, and calm individual whose presence enriched the lives of all those she worked with. Her dedication to the youth she served, her colleagues, and the CBFY mission will never be forgotten.

To honor Shayla's memory and her dedication to empowering youth, we are establishing a scholarship in her name, which will be awarded to a deserving YAA recipient this year. We are raising $1,500 – and once we reach that amount the fund will be closed.
