The Centre de pédiatrie sociale en communauté d’Antoine-Labelle (CPSC A-L) is a charitable organization that offers free services aimed at the overall development and well-being of children aged 0 to 18 living in the Antoine-Labelle MRC and living in a vulnerable situation. Inspired by Dr. Julien's approach, community-based social pediatrics is a model of integrated social medicine, focused on the needs of the child and focused on his strengths, those of his extended family and his community. To do this, the CPSC A-L relies on complementarity with institutional and community environments. This holistic approach to health takes into account all the problems of the child, its causes and its consequences. Bringing together the expertise of medicine, social sciences and law, social pediatrics in community seeks to identify, reduce or even eliminate the sources of toxic stress (risk factors) that affect the development and well-being of children from a difficult environment. The Center's clinical team works in interdisciplinarity, where the doctor and the social worker work together to make a comprehensive assessment of the child's physical, emotional, emotional and social health. In addition, the social pediatrics approach actively involves the child, his / her parents, siblings, other significant adults and stakeholders (if any) aiming at sharing information about the situation and the possible solutions, in a spirit of empowerment of the child and his family. First of all, we take the time necessary to welcome the child and his / her family in order to build trust between them and the CPSC's clinical team. This results in a user-friendly, personalized and flexible approach, outside the formal and institutionalized frameworks, without any balance of power or judgment.
