Group home services supporting young people (15–45) with mental health challenges to achieve recovery and reintegrate into the community.
The CHAS is a nonprofit organization established in Sherbrooke, Québec in 1998. We provide a residential program offering transitional supervised services, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for young people between the ages of 15 and 45 who are experiencing the early signs of psychosis or living with a mental health condition. With a recovery‑oriented approach and a specialization in psychosis, our program works to improve outcomes and reduce the impact of the illness on daily activities, relationships, and self‑esteem. Our mission is to empower residents to better understand their condition, reach their highest level of social and occupational functioning, and develop the skills and strengths needed to live independently, healthily, and with dignity. Each participant receives personalized psychosocial rehabilitation services tailored to their individual goals, helping them regain control over their lives and reintegrate successfully into the community. Since our founding, more than 540 young men and women have benefited from our program and have gone on to thrive in society. The challenges faced by our participants are significant: 75% were experiencing their first episode of psychosis, 90% had co‑occurring mental health, anxiety, or addiction disorders, 85% arrived without a life project, and 60% had a weak social support network. Yet, thanks to the care and support they received, 90% have maintained themselves in the community after leaving CHAS. Our program goals include preparing residents for independent living, teaching social and basic life skills, raising awareness about substance use through harm reduction practices, and building stress and anger management strategies. We also provide reintegration and community support, while promoting mental health and working to prevent isolation, suicide, stigma, and discrimination.Your support makes this transformation possible. Every donation helps us continue to provide a safe environment, specialized care, and hope for young people facing psychosis and mental health challenges. Together, we can reduce stigma, strengthen communities, and give these individuals the opportunity to build meaningful, independent lives.
