The Centre for Newcomers was established in 1988 in response to the refugee crisis in Central America and quickly developed into full service agency for newcomer settlement, employment and English language services. The Centre for Newcomers welcomes over 50,000+ newcomers who arrive in Calgary every year to seek a new life and to be part of building a dynamic community.

Newcomers bring rich cultural, professional, personal and educational experiences and are eager to make valuable contributions to society. Yet, many need support to settle and integrate into their new community successfully. Through the generous support of donors and program sponsors, the Centre provides life-changing services that build connections, create opportunities and promote participation and citizenship to the increasing number of newcomers who call Calgary their home.
