Sylvia Clark Mills Community Artists Education Fund

Sylvia Clark Mills was born and raised in Napanee and demonstrated a commitment to lifelong learning throughout her life. Sylvia was a gifted secondary school teacher and program leader of tech education, fashion arts, visual arts, dramatic arts and guidance. Over a distinguished career with the Peel District School Board, Sylvia excelled  in her profession both within the classroom and voluntary co-curricular activities. Sylvia returned to Napanee for retirement in 2007 and passed away in 2016.

 

SYLVIA CLARK MILLS COMMUNITY ARTISTS EDUCATION FUND

Available to members of the community, regardless of age, who wish to advance their knowledge and skills in and through the arts as individuals or formally organized groups, (excluding publicly funded groups, programming routinely delivered by school boards and professionals).

Recipients commit to share their benefits with others, as much as possible, through showcasing their learning through workshops, exhibitions and/or performances.

Available to areas related to visual arts, drama, music, dance and multi-media.

Learning through the arts is a critical component to advance individual and creative growth in the community.

Project examples may include:

  • Inviting workshop leaders from outside the community as guest instructors/directors for future performances
  • Attendance/participation in professional development conferences that occur outside of the region
  • Purchase of specialized materials to support community groups with the acquisition of art supplies, drama resources, sheet music, etc.
